Malignant biliary obstruction caused by malignant tumors such as cholangiocarcinoma, liver cancer, pancreatic cancer, and metastatic cancer has a high incidence rate and is often found in advanced stage. Liver transplantation has become the most effective treatment for end-stage liver disease, but the incidence of postoperative biliary complications is still high, with statistics ranging from 10% to 30% and a mortality rate of 10%. It is one of the important factors affecting the long-term survival of patients after surgery. Biliary reconstruction technology plays an important role in liver transplantation, and its success or failure is an important factor affecting the incidence of biliary complications after liver transplantation.

ImplantingBiliary Stents into narrow or obstructed areas is currently a better method for treating biliary obstruction. In complex biliary reconstruction, the application of biliary stent tubes cannot be ignored, especially in cases where biliary reconstruction is unsatisfactory. The retention of biliary stent tubes should be considered. Biliary stents can not only reduce pressure, drainage, support, and facilitate the healing of the biliary tract, but also facilitate the observation of bile conditions and postoperative cholangiography. There is research confirming that placing stent tubes through anastomosis is a very important factor in avoiding biliary complications, which can reduce biliary complications, especially in complex and difficult biliary reconstruction. In the process of biliary reconstruction after liver transplantation, for patients with good biliary conditions, biliary stent tubes may not be retained. However, for some complex biliary reconstruction, different types of biliary stent tubes can be selected according to different intraoperative conditions to facilitate biliary healing and reduce postoperative biliary complications.
